School Support Levy Replacement
What is a School Support Levy?
A way for local communities to supplement state funding, which falls short of
providing a well-rounded education for students.
- The CKSD School Support Levy, which expires in 2010, provides 12% of
the District's annual operating budget.
- The School Support Levy replacement will be on the February 9, 2010
ballot.
- Levy dollars fully or partially support and maintain the following:
- Arts
- Athletics
- ASB activities
- Community schools
- Gifted services
- Health services
- High graduation rates
- Instructional materials
- Learning specialists
- Library
|
- Maintenance, grounds & custodial
- Music
- Physical education
- Science Kit Center
- Special Education
- Support for meeting state standards
- Teachers and staff
- Technology
- Transportation
|
- The current levy qualifies CKSD for additional state and federal funds
for a total of $24.2 million to support educational programs.
This additional funding would be eliminated if the proposed School Support Levy is not
in place.
- For a median priced home of $260,000, the total of the proposed
School Support Levy would represent a tax increase of $7.15 per month in
the first year.
- The School Support Levy maintains the critical educational programs
our community has come to expect.
