Zoo
- Using a map of the zoo, have your child plan out a day at the zoo. Have him/her indicate which animals he/she wants to see. You can also include how much time you can spend at the zoo and have the child plan the time accordingly.
Cooking
- Helping in food preparation provides your child with numerous opportunities to make the connection between the math they are learning and how it is used in day-to-day living. Helping to prepare the meal involves many elements of mathematics including time, fractions, measuring, and sorting.
Please Note!!
- In addition to the two previous activities, all activities in the other eight sections listed on the math strands page will help your child to connect mathematics to real-life situations, to see how ideas relate within mathematics, and to see how mathematics applies to other areas such as science, social studies, health, and geography.
