Reaching Academic Excellence

Academic success for all students is an important goal for CK schools.

Test scores on national, state, and District-level assessments have risen at a steady pace over the past several years and are typically above state and national averages.

The District and its schools review test data and classroom assessments annually to identify teaching strategies and staff development that will continuously improve student achievement at all grade levels.

  • Overall, 2004 WASL results at the fourth and seventh grade continued to improve and are historically at or above the state average. In the second year of the tenth-grade WASL test, results remain mixed.
  • Scores on the second-grade ITBS continue to show improvement and are the highest in the three years the test has been given with reading results at the 70th percentile.
  • This spring’s results on the second-grade Direct Observation of Oral Reading (DOOR) show that 94% of CK students are reading at grade-level.
  • Composite scores on the third-grade Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) show the average CK student once again outperformed 60% of the students in the national norm group.
  • Sixth-grade ITBS results were consistently above the national norm group with composite scores at the 58th percentile.
  • The second annual ninth-grade Iowa Test of Educational Development (ITED) results were above the state and national averages with the average CK student scoring at the 63rd percentile.
  • CK’s SAT scores continue to be consistently above the national norm with verbal scores at 522 and math scores at 520.
  • The number of students taking Advanced Placement courses continues to grow along with over 70% of students passing the test with a score of 3 or higher.
